DRREA is about making it possible for everybody to use renewable energy.
For example:
Members buy a solar panel or share the cost of a panel. Panels are installed on the roof of a community building.
Electricity produced is used in that building.
Any surplus power is fed into the grid and sold to power companies.
Members are paid for the electricity generated by the panels. This is called a grid interactive system.
AIMS
1. To initiate community based renewable energy projects, in the Dandenong Ranges and adjoining areas.
2. To promote the innovative application of renewable energy technologies.
3. To provide opportunities to invest in renewable energy projects which will deliver environmental and educational benefits to the community.
How can You Participate?
Joining the Association is one way to participate. Membership is $10.00 per family. This includes a regular newsletter.
Another level of participation is to contribute towards the cost of a ‘Community Panel'. This is purchased via fundraising in the local community and is one of the panels in the installation.
The top level of participation involves financing one, or half of one solar panel, for a new installation. A panel costs around $1,280. Members who do this are paid the net income from the electricity produced by their one panel or half of one panel for 25 years or for the life of that project.
