Helmeted Honey Eater

More on The Helmeted Honey Eater

Last Friday students from 6K, 5/6B and 6S, participated in tree planting activities at Yellingbo Reserve. This reserve is a site where all three Victorian state emblems can be found ; the helmeted honey eater, Lead beater's possum and pink heath. The group of 76 students planted 1400 trees that will provide habitat and food for the helmeted Honey Eater. It was a perfect day for planting and the fact that we rain over the weekend gives us hope that our trees will survive.

After our planting, Gaye from the "Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater" group and John, the ranger, took our group on a tour through the reserve. Some people were lucky enough to see a helmeted honeyeater.

We all learnt a great deal from this experience and came back feeling as though we had made a difference. Congratulations to the "Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater " group as throughout last week an incredible 15000 trees were planted!!

Thankyou to Jo  and Kathryn who joined our group and helped in a BIG WAY on this day.
