The early people chopped down Mountain Ash trees for ship masts and lampposts, wattle (blackwood) and other wood for furniture.

Jim Legge, was one of our early bullock driver s. He was in the area for about 15 year s then entered the sawmilling business. A son Walter L.egge afterwards carried on the mills with bullocks teams inherited from his father and in his young days carted wheat with a team in N.S.W.

During the second war Mr Legg used bullocks at his Beenak Mill to haul logs for use in constuction of piers and bridges. He loved his bullocks Legge's wife still says he'd rather sell me than the bullocks - we think she teaches us RE!!. by Tyson and Rick
